Hello, I'm translating a technical text from Russian into English, and I've run across a couple of phrases that I'm having a little difficulty translating...

Could any of you help, please?

One of them means, 'a railcar repair performed while being coupled with other railcars (locomotive)' - can one say 'coupled repairs'? Or what is the correct term?

The other is related, but with an opposite meaning, 'a railcar repair performed while uncoupled, separated from other railcars/locomotive, on tracks dedicated for repairs'... 'Uncoupled repairs'?

These phrases are used in the context of routine maintenance for the purpose of keeping railcars in good technical condition and to prevent more serious breakdowns or accidents.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The first is usually phrased "running repair" and the second "repair in place" or 'RIP', although this is somewhat contrary to the root meaning. It would very much depend on who the audience was, however, as the terminology has regional usage.

If you had a more specific example of the readers I might be able to offer better suggestions.
