The Nashville and Eastern is a shortline that runs from Nashville to Monterey, TN, on the old Tennessee Central trackage (originally built by the NC&StL) The train shares the track with Nashville's only commuter train, the Music City Star, so the freight runs only during the middle of the day. My office is less than a mile from the N&E Nashville yard, and they happened to be heading east with the Friday train when I got in the car.

And here is the Music City Star which shares the track:

Matching the initials to the paint scheme on the 574 is a nice touch. Looks great! I wonder if they will do the same with the 573? Nice to see these still working after disappearing from so Cal in recent years.

Nice. The N&E looks like a cool railroad to railfan.

Thanks Jake. It is a fun line, though since they only run in the middle of weekdays it's hard for me to get much of a chance to chase them. Going to have to take a couple days vacation here soon.

I don't know, but they haven't made any attempt to doll up 573 so far. These two are paired up together quite a bit and in use a lot of the time, so they may be waiting until it goes in the shop for a while for something else.

Nice shots

Thanks!

Nice photos! I chased them last summer. Saw two N&E trains and got to see the late afternoon runs of the MCS. I'd like to get down there again sometime.
