A few pics of a northbound train from bridge 37 (Everett) to Marysville. Sneaking in one photo of my 1 of 2 BN Exec Macs (HO scale)....I'll keep it to just one pic of the model RR stuff. Hoping for some good snow pics tomorrow.

I like the 70MACs. They are loose and worn in, like an old sweater, which makes them comparable to a 600 or 700 series Dash 9. I prefer a GE cab over an EMD cab, but there is pretty decent visibility in the teardrop window cabs, especially compared to the new EMD cabs. They've been bumped down to general service, so it's possible to catch them on just about any train, instead of only seeing them on coal trains. I don't cringe when I see one in my consist or on the head end quite the way I do when I see a 75M or a Dash 8.

I saw a CSX standard cab Dash 8 show up at the roundhouse when I left the yard office tonight. I have a sinking feeling I'll be seeing that antique tomorrow...

So is BNSF actually going to purchase more locomotives to help with this shortage or they just gonna lease and pull the old ones and put them back into service?

For 2014: 275 new GEs and 100 or possibly 180 new EMDs. They don't really have any more stored mainline units to put back in service.

I saw some comment on a youtube video that there are something like 200 MACs sitting in storage...seem like now would be a good time to bring those back out. You mention the MACs being bumped to general service, what requirements are there for coal trains? New units for power reasons? There are a couple CSX (maybe just one, haven't been able to see the road number) units floating around up here too.

Wow that's good news. So I mentioned in my response to RCH that someone on a youtube video a few years back said there were 200 or so MACs just sitting in storage along with 87 or something SD60Ms...is that accurate?

Not accurate at this date. There are only 23 SD70MACs laid up, right now. Some have had major failures that require time to get through a shop or are out of service waiting for a 2014 overhaul. There are 15 SD60Ms that are laid up.

Ah ok thanks for the update. With overhauls does BNSF have the desire to paint in their own colors or will they leave them alone?

On April 7th of last year, I captured units that had been stored in KC's Murray Yard. They had been there for at least 18 months if not longer before finally all being released back to service? At any rate, there isn't a single wrapped unit left in that area of the yard (or anywhere as far as I can tell).

BNSF 867, 887, 888, 916, 932, 933, 937, 940, 950 (C40-8W's) and more that I couldn't get the numbers off of due to being blocked by buildings. There were about 20 in all.

I haven't seen anything stored in the yard in a long time. I am however seeing a lot of odd, old power on regular freight. Old Geeps and whatnot from wayyyy back. Stuff I was used to seeing a few decades ago.

Quite busy in Everett Delta Yard and trains going north and south through Marysville. Rain made my photography real fun... :(

Well I visited Carkeek park and it has so many great photo opportunities but no trains rolled through. I'll stop in next sunny day.
