13 April 2014: UP 1982 leads a UP transfer move to Lake Yard; then the power (UP 1982, UP 7302 and patched ex-SP UP 6415) returns light to Albina.

I hadn't realized what the term "heritage" actually means in this context until I looked up the history of MoPac. Now I understand why fans get excited when they see a heritage unit.

My serious railfanning days ended at Tehachapi/Mojave/Trona in 2001; I guess the heritage-livery UP locomotives hadn't been invented then (?).

With so few class I railroads left in North America, the heritage units provide a nice break from the usual parade of UP and BNSF units plus semi-regular appearances of CN, CP, NS, and CSX units.

As a kid, I lived in Sikeston, MO (pronounced "Misery") from 1958-63. Two railroads served the town. A secondary Frisco mainline ran north-south and a Missouri Pacific branch line ran east-west. Fast forward 50+ years and 2,000 miles west: both lines are now part of railroads whose diesels I see pass MP 18.

Neat catch. I haven't seen any heritage units down this way in quite a while. I think more freight traffic runs by me at night these days.
