Do railroads have a standard for the listed milepost for a station/siding?

If there's a 7000' passing siding, and the milepost is listed as "1045.8", is that one end of the siding, the middle, where the "station sign" is (or station originally was located).

Same with tunnels and bridges?

In particular I am referring to BNSF's ex-BN, nee-GN lines.

On the ATSF lines the station sign was placed as close to the original site of the depot as possible. The m.p. listed on the ATSF lines in BNSF ett's is the location of the station sign.

What is your malfunction?
On the track charts, the switches are noted mileposts for example, NSS lookout is MP 78.900 and the SSS Lookout is at MP 80.000, as for Station signs on TWC and CTC, both are just about at the same location at each end of the sidings or on TWC & CTC , it could be at the center of a siding or un controlled siding at a RR trackside building such as a depot and such.
