There are a lot -- literally miles -- of lumber cars stashed on the old spur between Palmer Jct. and the end of track near Veazey (on the old line through Enumclaw). They've been there, I believe, for years.
Does anybody know how long cars in storage can be left before they are unusable and have to be scrapped? When and if these things are pulled out, do carmen have to go over each one before it's moved or goes into revenue service? I'd assume that in the northwest, blackberries and small trees could be a problem, too. In the south, kudzu ...
I'd have the same question about surplus power, too.
I'd guess that they stash these thing on remote spurs and sidings to lessen vandalism and meth heads from doing much dmage.

I moved this thread. It was originally located in the section intended for asking help in using the forum.

In some cases regional and short lines are paid for the use of their tracks as storage yards, so they are not going to be in any hurry to remove the cars.

Thanks for moving this where it belongs. To make my question a little clearer, these cars are likely BNSF and are stashed on a spur BNSF owns.

I think we have all seen this. At one time (and maybe still is) the former WP Reno branch was a depository for 90' flat cars.
