Got out to Ashland yesterday for a nice 4 hour getaway. Traffic was flowing nicely, including 5-6 westbounds off the Omaha Sub.

Got to play with the DSLR more (still trying to learn). Met some new friends. Hung out with an old one I hadn't seen in a while. Enjoyed the beautiful day as well! Not bad for a rare afternoon off!

Wow, 4 locomotives on the front of a Coal Train?

Nice photos!

Four leading but no DPUs. Still seemed overpowered. And thank you!

Tried a new spot downtown last night. Bugs eventually drove me off but it was a nice night out and I needed out of the house. Other than shooting through a fence, it wasn't too bad. Not perfect for photos unless you're looked specifically for broadside shots, but I figured I'd try it. Even caught a few GEVOs camped on the bridge over the creek for a bit.

I'm always up for suggestions, advice, and critiques! Please feel free to mention something!

And my obligatory weather addition...

Caught my first ever Northern Lights display the other night! Worth the 6512316832 bug bites I got.

Plus a mesocyclone in an embedded HP supercell from a brief chase in northeast Nebraska at the beginning of the month. I want to take more weather photos pretty bad.

Barring something spectacular worth sharing before the holiday, I suppose I'll wish you all a Happy Independence Day and weekend!

You got some more nice photos there Nathan!

Thanks Brad!

Quick one from the other night. Was out and about and since it was a lovely evening I decided to dust off my camera (been a crazy past few weeks). Trying to get a few different perspectives in and around Lincoln.

Going to attempt to increase my camera outings over the next few days. We'll see if that actually happens.

Last shot of 2015

Been a while since I've made a post here. A move to the Kansas City area as well as going through a stretch of time without a lens for my camera did not help. Also, the fact that my first ever attempt to get track-side down here ended with a railroad employee calling the cops on me all because he saw my scanner and thought I had stolen it (thank you Amazon order archives).

Did a quick return to Lincoln a week or so before Christmas and drug my friend Curtis to Ashland to see some action. No where near the parade I've seen a few times, but it wasn't completely dead either. Being a weather enthusiast/storm chaser, my first choice of lens to purchase was an ultra-wide angle so it limits you on the type of shots you can take...

Might have to start a new generic thread for if I'm ever able to get trackside again down here. Happy 2016, everyone!

KC blow Omaha and Lincoln out of the water when it comes to Railroad Action. KC is an amazing location for railfans!

Yeah! I live about a half mile away from the BNSF Ft. Scott Sub here in Lenexa. I can hear the parades go by all day and night as Lenexa doesn't have a quiet zone in place for their 2 grade crossings in the Old Towne area. Emporia Sub is about 3-4 miles to my west. In picking out spots to go check out I stumbled upon a map someone made of locations they've visited and watched traffic from. Hope to get out tomorrow on my day off (and the anticipated 40s vs. 20s).

Some excitement in Lincoln's Hobson yard this morning.

My friend Curtis (works for a crew shuttle) shared a few shots with me (and gave me permission to share here). Typical GEVO toaster!
