Laredo, Tx. and UP railroad?

I recently appllied to UP for the Laredo, Tx. conductor position. But when i mentioned to my sister and pops. who are in law enforcment down thier didn't sound pleased? Cuz of drug/smuggling from the mexican side bleeding into our side. they said a-lot of railroad conductors are getting harrased to help smuggle contra ban over. Any trueth to that??
An how long does i wait to hear if UP is even intrested in hiring me? with lil experince on trains.

Most of the trains come pre-loaded with drugs. A buddy of mine was working Brownsville to Harlingen and had at least one big bust on his train.

Your chances might be good, UP in most cases call you if you applied within a week after the position was posted online, but then again it like that with most jobs. They will invite you to a hiring session for 2 hours of what to expect from the railroad then the reading test and if you pass the reading exam, Interview time. I agree with SDJeff there no way of knowing, what the heck is on your train as a conductor once it comes across.
