Honestly I'd be surprised if they didn't have reasonably good security. Most news organizations are potential targets from all the nut jobs out there. That said it is really beside the point because the abililty for a terrorist to do wide scale harm by taking over a tv station is relatively limited. I am surprised by people's reaction. It is like someone said something bad about their kids. Its a big corporation for goodness sake. They can protect themselves. Ironically it isn't a two way street. BNSF wouldn't return the favor.

I dont think it's because they said something bad about the railroad - we do that ll the time - but because they mix it in with misunderstanding, sensationalism, trespassing, etc. I think what bothers me is that they threaten to go to the government - why didn't they start there by asking them if it's even ok? If BNSF is compliant, then maybe they should instead be attacking/exposing poor government regulations.

Regardless, I am sure that there is more that can be done to secure the rails, but I doubt that there are many things ultimately that someone could accomplish by trying to operate a train. IMHO, of course.

I DO hope that the railroad does file tresspassing charges against KOMO-TV. They broke the law, and should be prosecuted just like anyone else. Being a reporter does not exempt you from the law. And NM Railnut is correct---November and February are "sweeps month" for television--so they'd do ANYTHING to jack up the ratings.

Exactly. I'll wager that neither of these clowns attempted to do ANYTHING about their concerns through internal, regulatory or legislative processess, either.

If I saw a news crew fouling the tracks, i'd probably escort them off the property, but it depends who's the reporter.
