KCS F Units on a Surprise Trip!

Okay, maybe not a "surprise" trip, but the KCS OCS came to the St. Louis area on Monday to check out improvements to the 110-mile per hour stretch of track south of Godfrey, IL. I heard about this trip on Saturday night and I knew I had to catch it. By the time I got to the former GWWR yard in East St. Louis, the Fs had been removed from the train and were being refueled. Around 7 other railfans and I waited at the west end of Valley Junction as they tied on to their train. Around 7 pm, with the sun almost below the horizon, the train headed west! We were able to get it in the only two areas with sun left. In 15 minutes, the sun would be gone. Talk about cutting it close! The F units looked great and I got to talk to some railfans who I had not seen in a while.
