This afternoon's northbound Starlight out of Portland had something unusual to see at each end: Two P32s (510 and 509) on the point and private cars City of Angels and Cimarron River at the rear.

The P32's have a blue color look about them, reminiscent of the GP 7/9's some railroads assigned to mail trains and second class passenger trains using heavyweight equipment back on the 50's. They also remind me of the SDP 40/45's the Great Northern assigned to passenger trains in the late 60's as replacements for the F units.

I have seen the City of Angels pass through Edmonds on the end of the eastbound Empire Builder.

They certainly have more personality than the P40/42 series ...

The 500s looked so cool in their original paint scheme - Amtrak did a masterful job of hiding an ugly design with bold color.
