Not much to see in the cab since there's not much in there. Back when I drove him at the CCRA it didn't even have the moving eyes. It had a place to chuck in the smoke bomb (and burn yourself if you weren't careful), the emergency brake valve and the whistle that sounded like a giant peanut wagon. That was about the extent of it. Thomas' friend on the other end of the train had to do all the work. There is a "real" steam powered Thomas at Strasburg that travels to areas nearby. The rest are shells.
As for ride quality? Well, we called it a 55 gallon drum on a skateboard...
