The train had the 6988 Steam Locomotive on the West end and the diesel locomotive 707 on the East end.

It is a 2-10-2 "QJ" Chinese engine , but I am not sure who made it. This one is heavily modified to look more American.

Thanks! There were a few people out chasing it, but not like when the 844 has come to Omaha in the past. The nice thing bout the IAIS Fireman trips, its single track mainline and due to the heat, they were only running 30 mph. Only going 8-10 miles out and 8-10 miles back, it was easy to get in to position and get nice photos in different locations. Only one idiot pacing the train too...

Brad, Great photos as always. I like the wind turbines in the background too, it's a mix of future and past in the same shot, so to speak... I want to say that if you look way back here in the forum, you can find photos of some steam locomotives when they were delivered to the US and I think one of them may be this one? I don't know if that is one of those engines, but it sure looks like it. I would saw maybe back around 2004 give or take a year or so. Have a safe and happy 4th!.

The other one IAIS 7081 still looks like it did when it came to the US. The 6988 was modified to look more American. I have seen the 7081 a couple times, but this is the first time I have seen the 6988. They did a good job with the makeover on the 6988. There is also another Chinese QJ in Boone IA on the Boone Valley Scenic Railroad.

The Chinese engine at Boone is a JS class 2-8-2. Number 8419. Built in 1989 at Da Tong.
I have actually been pretty lucky with the Chinese engines. I saw the SY 2-8-2 1647 (now Susquehanna 142) At Essex Connecticut in early 1990 just weeks after it arrived in the US. Might have been it’s first steam up. And both of the IAIS QJs. Individually and doubleheaded. And the 8419 at Boone.
I missed Knox and Kane 1658 (now disguised as New Haven 3025) and the RJ Corman QJ 2-10-2 7040 (renumbered as 2008).

SY is my favorite. Good stack noise, and bit more “American” looking.

BTW Brad....Pic #1 is the nicest. The windmill picture is the most interesting.
