How often has this happened to you?

I was all set up at a crossing, waited 10 minutes with the low winter solstice sun directly behind me, with huge picturesque dark clouds all around.... And then just as the train shows up, it gets completely dark. All I had time to do was to get the camera out of manual mode and hope for the best. Bummer.

It happens very often with me. While on vacation in USA I was using my new D7000 and the sun light used to change very fast and I lost many photos while trying to adjust the camera as the train was running near by.

It is why I use priority almost exclusively for trains. Shutter priority in particular since the aperture is pretty much a don't care.

I use shutter priority a lot, except when I think the headlights are going to mess with the exposure.

It seems like often enough. It’s particularly annoying with low sun and losing the good lighting under the frame.

Yes, but it’s not the same as the train bathed in the nice glowing light that was there seconds before.
