Hi,
Im 18 and ive walked miles of track in SC and GA in search of telegraph insulators. Ive done lots research on the railroads I walk and am nearly a pro at insulator hunting. While on a recent hunt in Warm Springs, GA, I found an old lantern in a ditch. It was buried in roots but I released it. It was missing the globe but poking around I actually found the red globe buried a foot away! After whipping the dirt off the lantern it turns out the have a small A.C.L. RR marking on its rim. The tracks are now CSX but were Atlantic Coast Line rail. Out of all my searching ive never found a railroad lantern! This is a first.

My question about it is if it is common to find a lantern such as this along railways? It must have been there for a really long time! Its got a red globe so I guess that means its a stop light?
