I'm currently working for a class 1 carrier on the east coast as a conductor. I was always interested in the passenger aspect as a conductor then engineer. I have had the great opportunity to have been given an offer of employment with amtrak recently. I just don't want to step over a quarter for a nickel. Also I've been reading a lot of negative things about amtrak, like non profitable etc. I'm just looking long term freight will always be there but will amtrak? Just looking for suggestions from current and former guys to see if it's better to hang out on the freight side or go passenger?
