ROCK GP38-2 #4329 RULES!!
Last night, I was watching the Fostoria cam at Railstream.com, and I saw a CSX train that peaked my interest. It was an all gondola train, and appeared to be loaded with sand. There were about 55 to 70 cars on the train, powered by 3 6-axle GE's. What is actually in those gons? Where does the train originate and terminate? And what is the commodity used for? This seems like a great train to model. I have never seen a unit train of gondolas before!!! Thanks for ANY help!!!!

I'm not sure of directions in Fostoria, but it went past the old B&O depot, crossed Main Street, crossed NS diamonds. Hope that helps.

Could you see the sand, or was it tarped, and did it happen to have any UP units on it?

Yes, you could see the sand ( or whatever it was ). There were 3 CSX widecab GE's for power ( CW40-8's, I think ). There were no tarps on the gons.

I guess I am not really shure then. I was thinking maybe you seen one of the dirty dirt trains of river bottom soil, but those are usualy tarped, and head to the UP for out west.

I am going to go out on a limb here now and say it was the river sludge from NY area. Last night on my way to Chicago, I passed the empties comming back with three UP units. Last year they were fairly predictable, this year they have been hit or miss. It runs from the NY area, out west on the UP.
