Hello all I am in Canada. I am going to have an interview for Conductor with CP Rail in next couples of days. I like to know the low down of this whole operation.
For a conductor when you first start, is it all on call work and shifts? how many shifts and hours would a newbie be guaranteed a week? as i will be working in Ontario. if i kept myself open to all shifts
how much time do you get off between shifts to sleep?
when your on the road? do you do a return trip on same shift back to home port? or do you sleep elsewhere? does the company provide accommodation when your on the road?
What is the best option to be available for shifts? should i be on spare board or is there a better options for new people?
how long is the training for new conductors and what is pay? where is training done?
What are the worst parts of the job? do you get breaks during your shift? or is it only when you get a quiet time.
WHat is the busiest time of the year for work and getting shifts and also during the week.
what is your opinion of the management with this company? do they respect the workforce? or something to less desire?
Is there much advancement in this company? from conductor?
if there was another position you could do? what would you recommend?
thanks
