South End CSX Mulberry Yard
1) Mulberry, FL
2) From the Intersection of Hwy 37/Church Avenue and SR60, drive west on SR60 until you reach the grade crossing. Just past it on the right (north) is Old Hwy 60 Road which Parallels the Rail Yard and on the left (south) is Nichols Road. If you want to view the Wye and Valrico Sub which runs past Mulberry Yard then turn left onto Nichols Road and make an immediate left onto Old Hwy 60 Road.
3) I've never had any problems there and have been there perhaps 50 times or more.
4) CSX.
5) This is a place for EMD Lovers as CSX keeps most of their SD70m Fleet, several SD40-2's, and an increasing number of SD70MACs on hand here for Bone Valley Operations. For Photography notes the engine parking track next to the old Hwy 60 Roadway is known as the Team Track, the park area on the Industrial Lead is known as the Fertilizer Lead, and main engine parking is...the main engine parking area.
Plant City Diamond
1) Plant City, FL
2) From Exit 21 off Interstate 4 drive south on CR39/Wheeler Street until you reach East Hwy 92/Reynolds Street. Turn left onto Reynolds Street and drive West until you reach Palmer Street (not far). Turn right onto Palmer Street and then left into the parking lot.
3) There are some bars there and it can get rowdy late at night but I've never had any problems there.
4) CSX.
5) This is one of the more popular railfanning spots in all of the Florida. There is a Depot Museum here and a dedicated trainwatching platform is under construction and is expected to open in December of 2013. In addition to two Amtrak trains a day you'll see trains running north and south on the S-line to/from Tampa, Phosphate Trains traveling north and south to/from CF Central, Locals working the area Industries, freight head east/west on the A-line to/from Tampa, and possible reroutes from the A-line to the S-line or vice/versa. Good Lighting allows for Trainwatching 24/7 from this location.
Dade City Depot
1) Dade City, FL
2) From the Intersection of Hwy 301/98/7th Street and CR52/Meridian Avenue drive East on CR52 until you reach the dead end intersection with Alt 98/Old Lakeland Highway. The depot will be right across the street from you and the preferred parking area is on the north side of the depot. The depot is closed to the public but there is a platform on the north end that the railfans are allowed to use.
3) There is a fair amount of traffic on Alt 98 and some pedestrians afoot but I've never had any problems there.
4) CSX.
5) Another popular railfanning spot in Central Florida. From here you won't get the Amtrak trains or Locals that go through Plant City, but you will get all of the freight traffic that goes to Winston (Lakeland), Miami, and possible Orlando in addition to what goes to Tampa which can be quite a bit of traffic at times.
