I drove down to Portland today and every train I saw was in the hole. I normally see 2-3 trains moving even on a bad day along I-5, what was the reason everything was stopped?
there is no hole on the seattle sub, it's all double main from nelson bennett to pdx. dont know why trains were stopped though, maybe just coincidence? waitin for amtraks probably...

The hole, stopped, taking a coffee break, I had to call it something.

I've lived in this area for 13 years and have never seen
every train between Centralia and Portland stopped while driving
both directions. Even my 6-year-old niece noticed that "none of the trains was going anywhere today"...

Well, it would certainly suggest a traffic backup. There have been numerous times I've observed trains stopped between Centralia and Vancouver, usually due to Vancouver or Longview yard congestion. It just sometimes happens!
Could it be because of the high winds they are experiencing in some areas?
What is your malfunction?
For starters, lots O Maintenance In The Way at Longview Jct and Longview Jct South, welders removing slow orders between MP 106 &107 on main two,
a southbound train with UP power and BNSF crews went into emergency when 6 cars at the end uncoupled after the EOT dumped the air.

And, when Uncle Pete has a train backing a train into the Longview Jct yard or departing the yard, they occupy main one to do so, leaving only main two open for traffic.

Thankfully the high winds were way south of here, most in central to southern CA. We're amny hundred miles north of there, thank goodness!

Thanks, my wife said she thought she saw some people in hard hats on the tracks in the Longview area when we went south that morning but I was dealing with traffic at the time on I-5...

I'm too lazy to dig up the track diagrams there, but why only UP and not the Big New Santa Fe? Is this only for trains arriving and departing to the north?
Nah, we're just as responsible for creating traffic jams at Longview. We may not have as many trains compared to UP working at Longview, but we muck up the mains just as bad when doing work there.

Great time for the post, Lee. I dusted off a bunch of old equipment and recently uploaded ATCS, and was watching it 12/1. I thought I had done something wrong, or wasn't getting updates, as "my" board was sluggish.
