Will the soon to be restored Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 run under his own power as the locomotives were designed without a helper.

Are you asking about whether it will run without a diesel in the consist? I doubt it. Mainline steam without a diesel is pretty much a thing of the past. Once in a blue moon, Canadian Pacific used to let 2816 run without a diesel in tow but even that didn't happen the last few years.

Generally speaking, the diesel isn't actually there as a "helper" but as a rescue unit if the steam locomotive were to break down. For the most part, the diesel isn't usually providing power but letting steam do all the work.

Well that diesel that shoved 844 down the rails a mile sure was helping pull the load!

I would think that for the first trips there might be power on standby, as they are going to want to know how the loco will perform. Really doubt it will be added to the consist during it's first outings.

A few years ago wasn't 844 uncoupled from a train on Sherman Hill and coupled to the rear of a freight that needed an extra boost to get to the summit?

I remember chasing SSW #819 a few times and it didn't have a diesel in the consist.

I need to get a slide converter and transfer them to my computer before something happens to them.
