I understand that Friday is (or was) the heaviest traffic day on The Funnel (Spokane to Sandpoint, ID). We will have ONE DAY to railfan The Funnel on our way to or from a couple days on Marias Pass (driving from Bend, OR), and it CAN'T be a Friday!

Looks like we would be able spend a Sunday or Monday on the way up, or the Saturday on the way back, on The Funnel.

Looking for input from those with local knowledge and/or recent experience. The schedule for the rest of the trip is revolving around this decision.

If the difference between days is 45 vs. 35 trains it probably wouldn't make a difference to us (we're used to 3-4 daytime trains down here on the Oregon Trunk Sub.!), but is it is 45 vs. 25 we would want to work around it.

Thanks in advance.

52 days until departure!
