Is it possible to monitor RR frequencies to listen in? Or are they all phone traffic? And if so, what frequencies would one dial in on?
I use My scanner all the time
Goshen IN....just East a short bit of the Elkhart IN yard. I'm lucky to work outdoors and see 'tons'of rail traffic
That would be the Norfolk Southern. I believe it's 160.800 - Ch. 1 Road
161.070 - Ch. 2
Do a little internet searching and you'll find more.
If all else fails, load all the frequencies, (92 or so) and you can't miss the comms! They are in the clear but not everything is over the radio, sometimes they do use a cell if they can't get the dispatchers. As mentioned, a search will land you all the frequencies and the channel number for them. Have fun!

That's what I do when I'm in an area that I'm not sure of what freq they are using.
The crews shouldn't really be using cell phones anymore with the FRA's Emergency Order 26.
