I thought this was a good beginning for this thread.
On this Day in History on May 1, 1971 Amtrak (National Railroad Passenger Corporation) took over the national inter-city railroad passenger service in the United States.

Thanks. for posting. I was a student at Washington State University (Go Cougs!) that day and mourned the passing of the several name trains of the NP and GN that ran through Spokane between Chicago and Seattle . I'm sure there are a sizeable number of members who were not even born yet.
