I don't know if I am on the right forum here.
Mods, please re-direct if I am in the wrong spot.
I was hoping to catch up with a guy I met when I was visiting the US around September last year. I was staying with my family in Kingman AZ and had the good fortune to meet some Amtrack train crew in the bar of the Hioiday Inn Express, cooling their heels waiting to pick up their train.
I was enjoying a couple of brews, these lads unforntunatley could not. However I had a great chat with them and struck up an interesting converation with one of the drivers about motor racing. He races cars in CA in his spare time and is a bit of a fan of our V8 supercar series here in Australia. I think his name is Hutch, or Hatch..not sure. Anyway I gave him one of my Holden supporters shirts and I often wonder how things are going.
Long shot I know, but if anyone might know who I am talking about, I would appreciate if you could let me know of any contact details or let him know he can reach me here on this site.
Thanks,
I used to watch the V8 Supercar Series a couple years ago on The Speed Channel here!! They usually showed the races when no drag racing or Nascar was on. Loved it, but that's been a few years now and no channels show it anymore. I love Holden vehicles-UTE SSV and the Monaro are awesome vehicles. We had the Pontiac GTO here for a couple years, (a Monaro), but sales were bad. Alot of people wanna' see the UTE brought here, and badged as the old Chevy "El Camino". That would be sweet!!
mrmoose, excellent! Welome to the Holden flock my friend!!
The V8 Super Cars is a great motor racing series. I used go to the double header on the Gold Coast every year. That was when we had the Indy Cars ( after that, champ cars ) and our V8s racing in thier own seperate championship events over a three day meet.
It was a great mix of fast, tight, open wheelers and the big muscle V8s charging around the concrete enclosed circuit. You could literally stand only a few feet from the action. ( Behind concrete and steel of course! ).
I have seen a few of the Pontiacs running around over in your country when I was there. The newest one I think is marketed as the G8, or G6, I think?? Not to sure about that. I think a couple of police departments actually ordered some for their cop car fleet.
They were an export of the new, at the time VE Holden that was let loose here in 2006. I bought one in 2006 and I love the look of them over in the states with the slightly different grill and Chevy badge!
I too am a Monaro fan and we love our utes too ! If you are interested, google HG or HK or HQ Monaros and see where it all began back in the '60s & '70s.
I totally agree with sending some utes over there and giving them that classic El Camino name. Sweet indeed!!
Yep! Pontiac G6's and G8's, and yes, some of the PD's are gettin' them for stealth patrol cars!! Sneaky! Be on the look-out for the new Matchbox 1/64th scale diecast UTE SSV in green-it's beautiful and looks dead on the commercials i've seen on Youtube.
Thanks, mrmoose.
LHD over here is a treat as well!
Autos aside, and into our chosen field of employment, I suppose we could get into a whole signal positioning thing also. Left v Right sort of thing. Where are your signals sighted?
Now there is a whole new story in itself, what, with signal sighting committees and the like.
Lots of variables!!
