Hi Everyone -
I'm a Hoosier with a grandfather who worked on the Madison Hill / Madison IN Incline when he was young, and my family farm borders the Evansville & Richmond right of way near Grammer IN.
I'm working on a short novel and would really appreciate some answers to a few questions regarding bridgebuilding and repair techniques on smaller lines in the 1870's-1880's. I've read Eric Stather's book "In The Ditch," about his experiences in the 1920's-50's with wreck repairs, great read.
Timelines would be extremely helpful - say a 300-500 bridge that's damaged in a flood, what would the repair options be, and how long would they take to complete?
I realize these are general questions with a broad range of possible answers but I don't want this intro to run too long. Anyone who's willing to help, I can add details.
Thanks!
