Disgraceful! Read the following article and comments from another group.
I have not seen anything about this on American TV. Have you?

So it looks like BOTH a CRH2 and CRH1.. I think it seems to strongly
imply that it was a network design/signalling failure rather than that
of any individual trainset. A 300kmh train is only as safe as the
constant stream of information provided to it. Also, Chinese
'netizens' apparently pulled up and publicized a TV interview given in
2007 by the railways chief engineer proudly-stating that 'onboard
automatic systems were installed to prevent collisions'. Guess those
didn't quite work out as planned, or were disabled by the supposed
lightning strike.
> If there is one positive spin from this, it will certainly put a dent
> in any Chinese efforts to sell their cheap Shinkansen/TGV/ICE
> knockoffs worldwide.
Glad to hear that - all they have done is lie & cheat about the sources
of their technology, whilst boasting it is the best in the world :-(
Now they have been brought back down to earth, although it is sad that
people had to die because of it !!
Shinkansen trains operated by Japanese railways have been designed using the concept that they should stop whenever an anomaly is detected, the JR official said. Since their launch, (47 years ago) no collisions have happened, according to the official.
