Coming this 4th of July weekend, 2011! Tentatively, an excursion is planned to run on the all-Alco-powered Arkansas & Missouri RR from Springdale to Chester. Photo run-bys, and on-board lunch provided. Train is scheduled to depart Springdale at 11 a.m., Sunday, July 3rd, and make a round trip to Chester, returning to Springdale around 4 p.m. There will be activities scheduled for Saturday, July 2 as well. (ALL STILL IN THE PLANNING STAGES...REFER BACK TO THIS THREAD FOR UPDATES. NEXT PLANNING SESSION IS WEDNESDAY 2/2) Also happening that weekend is the Rodeo of the Ozarks. Plenty of other family activities in the area for those not interested in trains. ALL MONEY RAISED WILL GO TO THE ARKANSAS OPERATION LIFESAVER, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to educate the public about the dangers of trespassing on rr property and crossing tracks safely. More information to come soon about passenger fare, motel rates, and the activities scheduled for Saturday the 2nd. There will only be a certain number of tickets available for sale for the excursion (I'll find out the exact number of tickets later) , so when they go on sale be sure you are the first to get them before they sell out!
