Not that long ago this sight would be unthinkable, back when WC engines stayed on WC rails and CN still had their 278 strong GP40-2LW fleet.
Now that most of it has been retired (~60 left), with the need for 3000h.p. 4-axle power remaining, WC GP40's are brought up north to the rescue...
This train had nothing but Potash, Wheat, a few tankers, and 1 coil car. Saskatchewan produced freight at it's best! And, a GEVO to boot! CN 2227 and 5347 head accross the bridge.
If I drive 20 minutes on my bike outside of town, this is the closest CN spot I can reach. I don't like it very much as its far from home, trains go fast doing 60miles/hour and it doesn't help that it's a dirt road in the middle of nowhere. That's why I chose to railfan CP instead on a regular...
The title is self explanitory. CN 5359 is an SD40-2W, class GF-30u, built in 1980. It has a clean record, no derailments or rebuilds. It is seen here trailing CN 5720.
Here we see to different eras of CN power! I have to admit new power is getting old real fast. I'm still proud of this cach, none the less. CN SD70M-2 8026 GP40-2L 9437 and SD40-2W 52xx head west on a manifest with lots of other wonderful surprizes!
What appears to be an SD40-2W, GMD-1,and SD40U with a grain unit train. Apparently, I didn't have very good lighting, so this photo didn't turn out as good as I hoped.
CN & ONR have a power sharing agreement, whereby CN gives them power for heavy coal trains, ONR in turn gives back whenever it can spare (or something close). Normally their units are capped in Northern Ontario, here however their newest power is taking an Intermodal out West! ONR 2105 is...
