As I drove down Southern Avenue I spied the infamous "Barfbonnet" hiding out in the darkness of Forrest Yard. This engine is probably best left to nighttime movements.

Just a couple of years after the Burlington Northern merger here is ex-Northern Pacific SD-45 6400 along with an ex- Great Northern GP-35 and an ex-Great Northern "Big Sky Blue" SDP-40 sitting at Laurel, Montana in the spring of 1971. Now, even the Burlington Northern is a fallen flag.

ex-GN dome in front of a Canadian Northern Hotel. The AOE car has since been bought by CN, AOE went broke, the old CN hotel still stands.

Athabasca Northern 4009, ex-CN GP9RM being foreign power on CEMR (another shortline), who operates more ex-CN GP9RM's - all on the CN mainline. Both shortlines are owned by CANDO, the locomotive was sandwitched in a triple GP9RM lash-up.

The BNSF railroad bridge across the Columbia River near Rock Island WA. It was built in the early 1890's as part of the Great Northern Railway. What makes this bridge somewhat unsual is that the bridge was later strengthened by adding an outer truss around the original truss.
I had ridden my 1956 Matchless 500 single down to Bellingham on May 19, 1962 when I spotted this loco doing some switching. Sunny day, Kodachrome, Alco, what could be better? Even the boxcar and covered hoppers were GN! And check out that delivery truck in behind!Great day indeed.
