Before hi-rails, the only way to get around was by a motor car, which wasn't very comfortable. This didn't work well with everyone however, thus luxury sedans were equipped with RR wheels. Here's an example of a beautfilly restored CP version in a museum: http://tinyurl.com/2suj43

Photographed in December of 2006 at the Colorado Railroad Museum during there Santa Clause Special of ex Georgetown Loop RR engine 40 now at home at the museum.
Before hi-rails, you could only get around on a motor car or a fancy sedan like this one, put on RR wheels. Although this example is restored in a museum, some ended up on shortlines where they served for a long-time. Here's a photo of an un-restored ex-CP Packard that was purchased by the GWWD...

I'm surprised they put this little critter in a museum, as I've seen a similar one working Winnipeg's Union station. Might even have a picture of it somewhere. Otherwise the photo speaks for itself - just love that VIA yellow on a tractor!

Today ONR has pretty boring power: SD40-2's, GP9's, GP38-2's & SD75I's (http://www.railroadforums.com/photos/showphoto.php/photo/19624/si/onr%202105) - the standard EMD's. That was not always the case however, as this RS-10 shows. Built in Monteral in 1955, the MLW was retired in 1985...
An old F3 is picking up a tanker at a back of an industry. Dreaming? Yes. However this ex-GTW F3 was only retired in 1994, although I doubt that CN actually used it for so long. Then again it does have the "modern" yellow safety stripe!
The conductor punches ticket stubs, as visitors to the Elgin Trolley Museum take a ride on vintage CTA car no. 4451, which was built by the Cincinatti Car Company in 1924.
Once upon a time this was a RR serviced ferry station that connected with the mainland. Then in the 1980s the RR was pulled up and in the late 90s an impresive 13km bridge was made across the strait that feeds into the Atlantic ocean. You can see the bridge in the backround. In memory of the RR...
