Ironically UP now runs empty coal trains over the M&NA from a power plant just out side Hoxie all the way to Kansas City. Does the excursion train from Cotter still operate? Haven't seen an ad for it in years. I know there is the one out of Branson, though.

    Rolling through Indian Territory

Having ust pounded the KCS/UP diamond and the service stop at Van Buren 30 minutes ago, UP 844 rolls west out of the small town of Sallisaw, OK. The nine car train was no strain for 844 & her 80" drivers across the realitivally flat land.

That is former Tex-Mex 862. One of only a few TM units to get the gray paint before KCS sold most of the power off.

Comment by 'zhilton' in media 'Mini-Rocket'

We get to see them from time to time in 5 & 6 car movements on the KCS; nicknamed rocket trains. With the shuttle fleet grounded...I don't think we'll be seeing a "rocket train" anytime soon.

And with 22,000 ponies available on an empty coal train...I don't think their will be any issue with making track speed.

That isn't something you see everyday. Four different schemes in one lash-up...and a Katy unit is leading. Great Catch there Hawk.

The last time I saw #4822 (ex-BN, nee-Frisco GP40-2) it stil had it's nose light...but I'm not srue if it could be used. Seems like there was another EMD on the KCS that still had the nose light...along with the ditch lights...but I'm drawing a blank.
