While that's true out in the east, you will rarely ever see two rotary (colored) ends facing each other. In the coal yard at North Platte on the UP they have a baloon track built specificly for this purpose. As they switch empty cars together into empty trainsets cars facing the wrong direction...

I don't think either of the Olympic units are in danger of going yellow. 2002 went in for an overhaul last year and came out with a freshly painted underframe and a white frame stripe. I must say it looks better then the original stripe color too.

What you just said LATX has nothing at all to do with this accident. Keep wishing for Class 1's to get back into the market, it will never happen they wanted out for a reason...they were losing money on it!
-
Great, thanks Brad! Now I'm going to have to try that shot come September when I'm in KC.
-
Hey Mike, welcome!
I live in western Kansas and can help ya out with anything you want to know about this half of the state. Everything from Salina, west I can help you with.
-
The UP bypass around town can be photogenic with some big curves and the bridge over top the BNSF. As far as I know the BNSF mainline isn't very busy but the yard is.
-
Well looks like a early early morning arrival in Salina:
CSXT 847
Departed St. Mary's, KS 10:45 P.M.
-
Alright, update for this afternoon is as follows:
CSXT 847
Departed Leeds, MO 3:12 P.M.
-
As of this morning CSX 847 departed Coffeyville, KS at 7:03 AM, unless the train can make good time to Salina I will probably be seeing this unit at night.
-
Just a update, the unit is still down in Arkansas I have a spotter in Van Buren, AR that should be able to tell me the entire unit consist.
-
It's quite uncommon to see foreign power in this part of Kansas, let alone on mostly all UP AC4400CW led coal trains.
-
Looks like a empty coal train bound for Energy, Colorado has CSX 847 on the point according to a source in Van Buren, AR and the UP trace. Last update in the UP trace puts it past Conway, AR 2:43 P.M. So, heads up to anyone along the UP Coffeyville Sub and also the UP Salina Sub as this is...
-
SP 319 is headed back to Salina, trace indicates it passed Navasota, TX at 4:29 P.M.
-
I also have heard her...more than once, even I have trouble understanding her I can't imagine the crews trying to scribble down Track Warrants.
-
SP 319 headed back east today towards Salina with a night arrival in Salina. Just a heads up.
-
Heading to Colby, Kansas, I'll keep everyone updated for when it comes back west as the DPU.
