After being out of commission since 2010 due to a severely cracked piston cylinder, the Grapevine Vintage Railroad's famous 1896-built 4-6-0 steamer, "Puffy", finally returned to service on the GVRR last Friday. She is seen in this video on her re-inaugural excursion pulling a Friday night wine...

Hi Tom,
Thanks for your reply and analysis. Your explanation makes perfect sense, and I had never considered the fact that LED lights "pulse" before. I had been wondering if it might have something to do with the frame rate, and I'm glad somebody was able to confirm that for me. This video was...

Hi guys, I've been dealing with an annoying issue when it comes to the way my camera records certain flashing LED lights at railroad crossings. Some types of LED lights that I've recorded in my videos will appear to intermittently "black out", as seen in this video, or otherwise exhibit a...

Wow, that is beautiful. I've never seen anything like it before, but I'm sure it would be worth at least a few grande, especially given the amount of detail and that it's hand-carved.

Haven't posted here in a while, and in fact I've been forgetting to post here the past few times I've uploaded YouTube videos, sorry about that :o.
Anyhow, here's my latest YT upload, featuring more UP action at my favorite spot in Hallsville, TX including CSX visitors:
Enjoy

On September 22nd, I caught a couple of KCS trains on the Greenville Sub (the first train, an empty coal drag, had all-BNSF power):

The final video installment from my 844 chase across east Texas. I may eventually post some video from my tour of the train at Marshall on October 20th, when I can get around to it, but this is the last 'action' video I will have of the 844 for a while. Cheers!

21 minute feature of the 844 steaming into Marshall, TX with the UP 150th Anniversary train on October 19th. Best to view it on the YouTube page, enjoy.

I finally accomplished a big railfanning milestone for myself, and I think the video speaks for itself (see video description on the YouTube page for further details on the particulars of the occasion). There's more where this came from...enjoy

18 minutes of UP train footage taken in the beautiful east Texas piney woods at Muntz Cutoff Rd in Hallsville, TX on July 3, 2012. Six trains total, enjoy

It's bad news in the sense of losing another piece of American railroading history from a railfan's perspective (railfans being the target audience of this forum). But you're right that the upgrades are ultimately needed, and in that sense, it is good news, certainly from a railroading perspective.

Hello everyone,
I have some bad news regarding the BNSF mainline between Augusta, KS and Ft Worth, TX - this pertains to the Red Rock and Ft Worth Subdivisions. As far as I am aware, this is the last major BNSF line that, up to this point, still had most of the original ATSF era US&S...

It's been a long time coming, but back in May I finally upgraded to a new HD Canon VIXIA HFR21 camcorder with an Azden SMX-10 stereo microphone to take my train videos to the next level. To break in the new equipment, I took a trip with a railfan buddy up to northwest Oklahoma to capture BNSF...

@ SamReeves
I used to live in Monterey area, and I know too well how dead the Coast Line is. You can drive US 101 all the way down through the Salinas Valley and clear on down to L.A. and not see a single train until you get around Santa Barbara or Oxnard area, when you start getting into...

It sure seems to me like that the railroad would lose money to go 8-10 hours without running a train on one of its main arteries (a dormant track is a track that's losing money), but then again, I guess as today proves and the experience of others on here goes to show, there are those days when...

Okay, so today was a perfect spring day with highs in the upper 70s and calm winds, so I thought "Hey! Perfect day to get trackside and do some railfanning!" I live along the BNSF Railway Red Rock Subdivision in Oklahoma, which is BNSF's lifeline between Chicago and Texas, and I went out with my...

A BNSF passenger business special train just rolled by MP 403 on the Red Rock Sub in Norman, OK at 10:45 AM CST. I wish I had known this was coming through, as I saw it go by out my window and had no idea it was going to be running through! I don't know if it's going all the way down to Ft...
