Canadian Pacific to sell west end of its Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern line to Genesee

Eminent domain problems, less demand for coal, I don't think they got a grant or low interest loan that they wanted, there were quite a few herdles and CP didn't want to dump the money in the line

Yeah, I'm sure a lot of it will survive on the CP, but I doubt the extreme west end will. Last time I was in Sheldon it didn't look like there was any activity at all, although it was a couple years ago, I doubt anything has changed. Hopefully UP can take over some of it or a shortline.

I think this has to do more with Harrison bringing up the profitability of the company. You can blame Obama and the EPA all you want, but Harrison is cutting 4500 jobs, selling lines, selling lands and bringing up the efficiency of the railroad. The coal investment is still a good one that...

There will be a railroad there, that line has enough customers where it will attract a buyer. And on the slim chance it wouldn't attract a buyer the state will buy it back again and try to find someone to run on it. I don't know if BNSF would look at running on it or possibly buying it, they...

    "Exempt" Signs...Should They Be Mandatory?

No, its not really that big of deal if they do stop, since the only ones who stop are buses and hazmat vehicles. I don't think that extra minute really matters too much in the grand scheme of things

Has technology really made the hobby (and your life) better?

Yes, I probably wouldn't do much if any rail fanning if I didn't have a digital camera. The ease of use, cheapness after the intial cost of the camera, and the edibility of the pictures makes it a win for me. Not to mention the message boards and websites that allow me to learn about what is...
