    Flying Scotsman on Tour

I saw it running on the Grand Truck Western. My dad opened a phone box west of Schoolcraft MI and was listening to the dispatcher to hear where it was. My brother and I were stationed near the road to warn him of approaching cars so he could close the phone box in case any railroad people came...

    The Flat Land Poster

I'm kind of partial to the UP 1983 in the fog. Where is the red depot behind the Wabash unit? I shot a train as it stopped to switch an elevator. The conductor got off and walked over. I figured he was going to complain about the flash. Instead he said they were picking up 80 some cars and...

Bought a railway signal lamp on a fleamarket. Does anyone know about it?

It looks like a British locomotive headlamp.

Freight Cars: How old is too old?

U.P. says: "According to the Association of American Railroads (AAR), when cars are 40 years old, built prior to 1974, they are no longer allowed for "Free Interchange" service. They may be handled between participating railroads on an exception basis or must go through a recertification...

Memorial Day Weekend Shot on the Loop

Sweet. I think many people would have waited for the locomotive to be further out on the bridge. As shot is has pause and draws the view back. I like it.

Chasing Southern #630 on the NS CNO&TP 2nd District

It looks like it was worth the climb. That's a nice view.

Should NS Restore a PRR Steamer?

The 1361 passing an I1 on the curve. That would be sweet. But I'll say no NS shouldn't do the restoration. There is a finite amount of resources NS will commit to a steam on their system. Soak that up with one locomotive and you get one locomotive. Use those resources to field steam NS...

    Talgo ferry Move

Michigan has an RFP out to lease three train sets until the equipment MDOT already has on order arrives in 2016-2018. MDOT confirms they talked to Talgo but that is about all either one is saying at the moment.

    Talgo ferry Move

Talgo is terminating it's month-to-month lease with the City of Milwaukee at the Century City facility and will move the two idle train sets out of Milwaukee. The Amtrak Unlimited form reports they will move to Amtrak's Beech Grove facility Wednesday night as train 960. Departing Milwaukee...

    Chicago area for British Railfan?

Maybe someone close to Chicago will jump in, but I'd guess 50 trains in a 24 hour period. Freight wise the last couple times I was there morning into afternoon seemed busy then it slows down for the evening rush hour. How long a trip are you planning?

    Chicago area for British Railfan?

I've always liked the short stretch from Hinsdale to Highlands. It has some nice suburban scenes along the ex-Burlington three track main. Freight traffic does not appear to be as heavy as it was before the BNSF merger. Metra commuter trains are busy at rush hour and about hourly on off peak...

Is that a person in the right side of "Pushing Snow". I'm guessing that's the Troy Grove job.
