    Edwardsville & Pontoon Beach, IL?

Just for old times sakes here's a couple more of the former CNW main at Pontoon Beach and Edwardsville- BUMAA southbound as seen from the ILL 111 overpass in 1993- this was Stallings siding on the CNW. BUMAA southbound under the Center Grove Road overpass in Edwardsville in 1989. The...

    Edwardsville & Pontoon Beach, IL?

If you're looking around Edwardsville proper- the only lines left are the NS (ex-Wabash) main line that skirts the west side of town and the UP (ex-NYC) Pana Sub. main line which passes a couple miles north of town. In Pontoon Beach there isn't much to see besides the Alton & Southern's line...

    NS Buying UP SD60's

Emotionally attached? No. Making absolutely sure people understand the difference between order slots and cancelled orders? Yes. Exterior features aren't everything on a locomotive... when I do reasearch I like to be thorough, something that seems to be sorely lacking in todays internet society.

    NS Buying UP SD60's

Railfan Rails- Check the CNW SD45s, various GPs and GP50s and get back to me on the winterization hatches- by that logic you could also say nose bells weren't standard CNW appliances because only the SD45s, SD40-2s and GP50s had them factory installed (GP40s and SD40s had them retrofitted)...

    NS Buying UP SD60's

These engines are in no way "ex-SOO". The Soo Line may at one time have had the order slot reserved for construction of SD60s and vacated it- but these engines were not built for the SOO. The CNW simply stepped in and had SD60s built in the order slot that the SOO vacated- there were no engines...

    In Search of MKT Infomation

Brenden, I grew up in the St. Louis area on the Illinois side in Edwardsville- my experience with St. Charles came in 2004 when I did my student teaching stint for 8 weeks there at one of the local high schools before moving to Texas. We had some student art works displayed at the old ACF...

    In Search of MKT Infomation

The MKT connected with the CBQ at Machens where they ran on trackage rights down to North St. Louis. There isn't much left to see of the old interlocking at Machens now besides the remaining BNSF ex-CBQ line north to Hannibal. The line closely hugged the river through St. Charles on the north...

Comment by 'nordique72' in media 'Local in Madison'

This unit was built as SP 7231- it became UP 9999 very briefly before going to NREX as their 9999. The train symbol is the G64- and has only recently been rescheduled as a daylight run. When I lived in Wisconsin along this line- the train was nocturnal. Nice shot.

BNSF northbound business train at Orr siding, Tomball, TX. Didn't even know it was coming until the engineer off the train in the siding came down to tell me about it.

Great shot from the north side of the bridge- no billboards, no wires, and best of all none of those goofy streetlights!

    Nearing the end of line..

The west entrance of the depot at Coon Rapids, IA still shows it's MILW heritage signboard in January 2002, sadly this building was recently razed by the BNSF.

    Enjoying The Breeze

SOU caboose X429 brings up the rear of Norfolk Southern's triweekly local on the former NKP mainline to St. Louis as it passes the abandoned LeClaire, IL interlocking south of Edwardsville. The rear brakeman seems to be enjoying the breeze on the rear platform as the train returns to the... is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to - An online railroad bookstore featuring a curated selection of new and used railroad books.
