    Odd Sighting

Have a some what or at least it seems to be, an odd sighing. Here in the Kansas City Area, there are two (one and a half in reality) routes from Kansas City to St. Louis. Because of the ruling grade, most of the loaded coal trains move east via the River Sub, and empties return westbound via the...

The Official Locomotive Rosters & News 2014?

Just a question -- does anyone know if they are going to come out with The Official Locomotive Rosters & News 2014 by James Kerr / DPA-LTA? I know it was in it's waning days, and come to think about it I never saw anything come in the mail about it. If not, is there any other Railroad Roster...

    Interesting Sighting -- I think

It was the other day, and it went by so fast I was not sure what I saw, or not. I was on the back the Missouri River Runner (groan -- I hate that name) which is the local Amtrak that goes from Kansas City to St. Louis (and vice the versa). This was on the STL/KC train and on the back was a...

    A "rare" spotting

I saw an oddity the other day, it was one of the few remaining "unpatched" SP/UP locomotives. I (think) it was 343 (or one of the 300 series). I was strange seeing one of the unpatched locomotives though.

    Interesting sighting

I an interesting sighting this morning. I had two (ex UP) MNA, with two UP, and both of the Branson Scenic Railway in tow, along with a manifest train. It was heading up (westbound) the Sedalia Sub. The BRSX where not under power, and not sure even if the UP where [under power] as it was a short...

    Weird Sighting

I had a weird sighting today here on the UP Sedalia Sub. As you might know form my other postings, the UP Sedalia Sub, at least my part, is in the Kansas City area, and is most generally directional traffic running westbound (geographically north). Most of the coal trains are empty, heading back...

    Unusual sighting...

I had a some what unusual sighting today. Not long after I got to work I saw a MNA (Missouri Northern & Arkansas) westbound (north) on the Sedalia Sub. No big deal since they have track rights. It was one of the MNA locomotives with a SP Tunnel motor behind it. About four hours later, I saw the...

    Interesting Reporting Mark

I happened to see a few "interesting" reporting marks on a train today. It was just a common ole manifest on old Uncle Pete, but a few of the cars where "ex" NYC. Or at least they had New York Central (NYC) makings. A few of them where Conrail, and the others CSX (which is no surprise for either...

    A "funny" sighting...

Sometimes you just have to grin. Last night on my way home, as I was passing under the UP Sedalia Sub in Lee's Summit I saw the UP coal train to Montrose, MO going eastbound (southbound). Saying to myself, that I would most likely see it on the return trip sometime the next day. Sure enough, as...

    Line Inprovements

I was wondering if anyone knows are there any plans on the UP Sedalia Sub for a siding extension in the Lee's Summit to at least Greenwood and/or Pleasant Hill? I travel one (or two) of the crossings, and they have it seems to be "extra" panels (example, the one crossing has a total of nine...

    UP Crane

I saw this the other day here on the Sedalia Sub, in Lee's Summit, MO. Sorry this is the only one that really came out well. But it was interesting none the less. He was moving very slowly, and had one flat car, with ties on it.

    Railroad Cafe...

I been thinking, if I could ever open a restaurant, what would it be. One idea I have had is doing a railroad theme one. First of all, it location, location, location. I would want one close to a main line track, preferably one that had multiple tracks, or even a junction, and have lot of rail...
