UP power with a fuel tender

Just East of West Chicago.
I see the FRED between the ditch lights; was this a DPU? And if so, is that the reason for the fuel car? Gee, all that power shoving into a car full of fuel...hope nothing goes wrong....

That's a good question Zardoz. (one of my favorite movies btw) I don't really have an answer. There was so much traffic that day, I'd forgotten that this unit was on the rear of the train. It's obvious now, but not noticed by me till you pointed it out.

What were they carring in those stack cars because if they have a problem with the tank car lots of people will be wondering where the shipment went?
