UP 3030 proudly wears her heritage on her nose.

Photo was taken on the UP East/West Main, east of Nevada, Iowa, at 667th Avenue. The train was MDMDM, a train that goes from Des Moines to Marshalltown to Des Moines each day. Just in case you don't know, her heritage is CNW, as evidenced by the nose gong. 2/21/04
Actually the heritage goes back further than that. This SD40 is ex-CGW and the only "gong" equipped units CNW had.

3030? No, this is an SD40-2 and CNW bought these brand new. Many CNW units had the nose gongs, including the GP15's, GP40's, GP50's, SD38-2's, SD45's, and SD40-2's.

UP 3030 is ex-CNW 6850, with a build date of 1974. The CGW was merged into the CNW in 1968. 6850 was renumbered back on 8/14/96.
