Tehachapi Puffy White Clouds

Tehachapi Puffy White Clouds

I've always thought that the old B&W photos looked best with puffy white clouds. I think the photographers used to use a filter to emphasize them.
Here is a picture taken on 10/2/2004 at Tehachapi Loop trying to emulate that look. I think the very dirty Union Pacific locomotives even look better in B&W.
Now if it were only a couple of AC12's pulling a block of iced reefers................
My initial thought was that you had made it B&W because of the state of the locos, which in my view was a good idea, either that or turn away in disgust and not bother.
Was it a red filter to bring the clouds up with B&W?
