Assuming that you are referring to the 3 small lights above the windsheilds, the two outer lights are the "marker" lights. They are red lights that are illuminated constantly when the unit is in trailing mode (not leading the train). The middle light is a red light that becomes illuminated, and may blink red, when the train is put into an Emergency Brake Application.
