In emergency...

I had the opportunity on Sunday, Jan. 26th to help out one of the railroaders I take photos of instead of just waving as they pass by. The V-TACKCM8-23 went into emergency at Dutch, WY right as I was pulling out for my next photo. The engineer gave a few short blasts on the horn and the conductor waved for me to stop. He walked out of the cab testing his portable radio and putting on his gloves. He waded through the snow towards me while yelling that they were in emergency and could I give him a ride back past the train.

I was happy to help. We heard air leaking about 1/3rd of the way back through the train so the conductor got out at a crossing to check it out. I continued on down the train and found the disconnected air hoses about 6 cars from the end of the train. I whipped around to get the conductor who was already walking towards the road when he saw me coming back to get him.

I would have preferred to be on the other side for this photo, but I still like the composition. In the end the train was only stopped for about 10 minutes and the conductor didn't have to walk two miles.
