Heartland Flyer In The Texas Sun

Crossing the Trinity River south of the Fort Worth Stockyards, the southbound Heartland Flyer glistens in the sun en route to the Fort Worth Amtrak station, where many passengers will transfer to the popular Texas Eagle.
Hi Doug!

GAD! You sure get around!

Cheers!

Rob,
I just seek out good photo locations of Amtrak trains in cities I have to visit on business. I've been to Texas twice in two years, so I know where most of the most scenic areas are. I now have trackside shots of every Amtrak LD train west of the Mississippi.

Interesting, that train has locomotives on both ends, so can get good shots of the train going either direction, as in this one...

A little trade secret here, I shot this location with TWO cameras.

My main camera, Canon SLR AE-1, was on a tripod with a 28MM wide angle lens.

The camera that took this shot, a 5 megapixel digital, I had set upon the concrete railing on the pedestrian part of the bridge. With my left hand, I had it set on continuous shooting.

I saved my most attention to the SLR with my right hand in terms of framing and focus. I of course had to crop the digital pics a littel since they weren't the primary camera.

The film camera has slide film which will be developed later. Would be good to compare the image qualities.

Hi!

Even after almost 40 years of Railfanning, I got a bunch to learn!

Keep up the good work!

Rob
