Ok i am going to sound dumb for asking but it comes all the way up from St Paul, MN wouldn`t it be going the long way if it came up on that line?

Being a 400 series train he probably works every major elevator en route, hence the final destination doesn't really matter. Just needs to set off empties and pick up loads before connecting to the main.
