Rio Valley Switching RVSC 1705

The RVSC 1705 is in the same place where I photographed it last year.
This unit has been out of service for atleast 2 years, maybe longer. It was once their prized flagship. The railroad has several places to stash it from further vandalism, but it continues to deteriate. I believe 2007 was a turning point for this shortline. In a short time, most of its units were sidelined and FRA tagged. Then one unit got whacked with a backhoe. Also, the embracing of remote control has slowed down their ops, but track maintence has improved their speeds.

Thanks rgcx, I think I have video of it switching the cement plant a few blocks west of this location from back in March 2006.

Gentlemen. I worked with RVSC for a short while. I do have to agree with RGCX that 2007 was a turning point for them. Since UP bought out the track that was once SP, will UP be the one fixing the track or RVSC? I hear its over 1 million a mile to R&R. Any updated with them from your end? I would like to see them grow with talks of the Anzalduas Bridge possibly making a Rail Bridge to bring goods from KCS de Mexico. That would have them upgrade the track from Hidalgo to Harlingen. A caboose would bring boost up morale. My opinion of course

I am unaware of any serious plans to build any rail bridges at the moment. Intermodal would be nice, but the entire Rio Grande Valley is currently served by the UP's Laredo ramp. UP would never let another company haul TOFC when they have no interest in it on their Brownsville line.
