Mid Summer

Here the Sumas local is on the north side of the US/Canada border on CPRail trackage at Huntingdon, B.C. Sumas Wa, is just in the distance behind the locomotives. This power is about to lift an interchange from the Southern Railway of BC and take it south.
Taken at 8.35pm on a very warm mid-summer's evening.

Brings back old memories. Back in NP days the Sumas turn was the last stand for solid sets of FT's. Most BN trains in the 1980's where headed up with ABBBA sets of F7's & 9's.

I chased the Sumas Turn up from Everett last summer, it was great!

Neat shot. I've spent many evenings chasing the Sumas Turn but I've only seen the switcher (once) go into Canada and grab cars off the SRY. Is this normal for the Turn crew to do it? Whenever I've seen them arrive they just drop off thier train from Everett, pick up the south cars and beat it out of town!

Unless things have changed recently, normally the BN will come up across the border almost nightly to lift an interchange out of "the hole" from the SRY. In order to get to SRY trackage, the BN power comes across the border onto CPR trackage and at the yellow 'high swicth' in the picture is where they cross oer to reach down into the SRY connecting track.
A hard to see second switch stand (below the cab window on the second unit) is the "Milwaukee Lead'. Dates back to the CMStP&P days.
