CN 7269 Fresh paint
Looks like Saskatoons main yard engine got some fresh paint in the cab area. Normally he operates exclusively in the main yard, which is largely inaccessible (recall http://tinyurl.com/69r8jh) however today he went out to lift some hoppers at the nearby elevator. Interestingly its located on CPs Wilkie sub, which one can see in the background. Ive seen CN bring in unit grain trains, usually with ES44DC road power, hence a yard slug set a welcome sight.

PS. Note the MLW slug trailing, used alongside a GP9 to switch an elevator in 2008. Who would have guessed decades ago that a Class I Railway would still be operating them today.

I watch GP9's on the Togo Sub. for years moving grain etc. You are right
you would think they would not be using 9's today!

Nice shot, Roman. I can't say I've seen a GP9 out of the yard since I was 7. Good to see it still happens around here.

Elijah, that's because Saskatoon is messed up. In Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Toronto (where I railfanned) and I'm sure other cities, GP9RM slug sets are used on tramp jobs all the time. In Saskatoon however the tramp jobs are exlusively handled by GMD1u's, 4700 & 7500 GP38-2's fill in when needed, but not the 7200's! Its Winnipeg's fault really as the crews on the tramp jobs hated the GMD1u's, so in early 2004 switched to using exlusively GP9RM slug sets sending the surplus GMD1u's to us.
