Two Main Lines

An eastbound CP train heads up grade towards the 5 mile Connaught tunnel in Rogers Pass BC. The adjacent main line leads to the 9 mile long Mt. McDonald tunnel which was completed a few months before this photo was taken. The latter provided a grade reduction to a maximum of 1% for westbound trains & eliminated the need for pusher locomotives. All eastbound trains which consist primarily of empties use the old line.

It's an ex BN F7B unit. The prime mover & traction moters have been removed & an early version of locotrol installed. It is deadheading in this eastbound train but will be placed mid train along with a couple of Dash 2's for loaded westbound movements.
