The Little Engine That Could
Blacklands power #201 pulled the Tejas Special today, averaging 12 MPH between Commerce and Sulphur Springs Texas. This was the first passenger train on the cotton belt since 1954.
Regularly scheduled Cotton Belt service on this line ended April 22, 1956. Trains were #107 & #108 that made a Dallas-Mt. Pleasant-Dallas Turn every day to meet #7 & #8 on the main line. There are photos of an officer special in Steve Goen's book dating to 1959 and I have photos of officer specials from the early 1970s passing through Commerce.
